Fiji expels top New Zealand diplomat (Deutsche Welle)

New Zealand says that Fiji has expelled its top diplomat to the South Pacific island nation. The Fijian government of Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama did not give a reason for the expulsion but it follows criticism and sanctions by New Zealand over Bainimarama's bloodless coup last December.

Fiji military extends rule, defies EU (Deutsche Welle)

Military rulers in the Pacific nation of Fiji have extended their state of emergency, defying a promise to the European Union. At stake is 100 million euros of economic aid. Last month Fiji's regime had told Brussels that it would end emergency rule by the end of April.
