(Sydney Morning Herald) Former Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase has told the High Court that he did not ask Australia or New Zealand to send troops to his country before the December 2006 military coup. The Sydney Morning Herald reports Qarase told the court that until he was overthrown by Commodore Frank Bainimarama in the coup, he had not sought to mobilise opposition to the military regime.
